For lovers of water and all things natural, Auvergne seems to be the dream destination. It is a region of France not only famous for its natural surroundings but also its waterways. If you like swimming, it is essential to have the most beautiful lakes to live a unique experience in mind. Here is a selection of the 5 lakes in the region that are not to be missed!

Lake Chambon

At the top of the list of heavenly lakes, this one is a place of choice. If you start from Clermont-Ferrand, it will take you, on average, forty minutes to get there. It is a stretch of water immersed in a sumptuous volcanic decor. Between the slopes and the dense forests around, you will have the impression of being in virtual reality. In this swimming area, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the volcanic waters by renting canoes or pedal boats. This is an opportunity to discover all that this environment has to offer. Don’t be afraid, because swimming in this area is allowed, unlike some lakes. In the vicinity of Chambon Lake, you can visit the castle of Murol to stretch your legs and take exceptional pictures.

Lake Aydat

If you want the best swimming experience of your life in this region, then this is the place to go. If you drive from Clermont-Ferrand, you will only have to drive about 20 kilometers before reaching this lake. It is an exceptional place where swimming is allowed but also supervised. If you don’t want to swim, feel free to take out your cameras to capture some compelling images. For those who love swimming, you can go windsurfing or take a pedal boat ride. Not far from this vast natural expanse of water, it is possible to go for a walk or even a horseback ride to discover the surrounding wonders.

The lake of Champagnac-le-Vieux

This lake is located in the heart of the village of Champagnac-le-Vieux. It is a small heavenly spot between Clermont-Ferrand and Le Puy-en-Velay. Whether you are a swimmer, an explorer, or a fisherman, this three-hectare lake is sure to please you. As for the other lakes, swimming in this one is authorized and supervised. The advantage of this lake is that it is divided into two parts. There is a shallow part reserved for children and young people and a much larger and deeper part to accommodate many swimmers. Apart from swimming in these natural waters, you can also set the pace by going trout fishing. All this allows you to immortalize your memories.

Lake Pavin

It is infrequent to visit lakes with an almost perfect circular shape like Lake Pavin. Located about 40 minutes from Clermont, this body of water plunges you into a natural, exotic, and sensational universe. It is a charming lake where swimming is allowed. Therefore, you can bring your bathing suit and enjoy the joys of swimming in complete serenity. On the other hand, if you want to take exceptional pictures, you will probably have to walk on the wooded lands (hiking) to discover the surroundings.
