Completely out of step with Africa, Zambia is an underestimated country that has so much to offer in terms of tourism and activities. In addition to being voted the safest country on the continent to visit, it has some of the wildest and most unspoiled landscapes in Africa. This remote wilderness makes it possible to enjoy game-rich safaris without the crowds experienced by so many other destinations. The only lively area is the country’s most popular attraction: Victoria Falls. But the powerful waters of the Zambezi offer visitors many activities, so you can be as active as you want.

What more to say apart from, here are some reasons why I love Zambia and why you should totally visit it!

1. Guided walking safaris in the South Luangwa River

What better way to discover Zambia’s premier nature reserve than with your senses (sight, smell, taste, sound, and touch)! On a walking safari, your senses are heightened and your adrenaline rushes… and it should be the same when you encounter a lion on foot!

2. Canoeing on the Zambezi River

The magical combination of a quiet paddle and the occasional shot of exciting rapids never fails! The Zambezi River is vast and you will spend most of your time watching the games from the comfort of your boat. But from time to time, you find yourself negotiating a few small rapids caused by the river’s many tributaries, which adds to the fun! It’s one of our main reasons for visiting Zambia!

3. Discover the mighty Victoria Falls

There are many ways to look at “The Smoke that Thunders” – one of Zambia’s most impressive experiences. In fact, some of the most spectacular views of the falls are on the Zambian side of the gorge. You can visit the falls independently or take a guided walking tour. And to get a general impression of the Victoria Falls, the “Flight of Angels” helicopter is considered essential by some.

4. Driving safaris along the Luangwa River

The incubating Luangwa River winds through the lush Rift Valley. It is no wonder that 4×4 safaris in the area between the river and the escarpment offer rich and varied views. The area is home to thousands of hippos and crocodiles, and your chances of seeing leopards are excellent! Bird watching is also superb, with over 450 species to see.

5. Sunset cruises on the Zambezi River

Watching the African sun set over the majestic Zambezi River (with a G&T in your hand!) is a truly magical experience. You can have a more intimate encounter on a small boat, or join a big sunset cruise (it’s also a great way to explore the river as these jet-powered boats can navigate in shallow water). In addition to the spectacular views, you will see elephants, hippos and a multitude of birds on a sunset cruise.

6. Victoria Falls – a paradise for adventurous travelers

Victoria Falls offers most of the fastest activities in Zambia (although some may consider a walking safari to be rather adventurous). Fight the exhilarating rapids on a whitewater rafting trip, or for the more daring, try bungee jumping! Or see all the majesty of the falls in a microlight or helicopter.

7. Night walks in Zambian national parks

Night outings can sometimes be more exciting than day outings. Go out after sunset to observe nocturnal animals such as genets and civets, mongooses, porcupines, badgers and hyenas on the prowl. You are also more likely to see leopards and lions doing something other than sleeping… this is when they normally hunt and your chances of seeing an animal killed at night are very good. Amateur birdwatchers will enjoy seeing night owls, dikkops and owls.

8. Experience the thrill of Devil’s Pool

It deserves its own course… it’s a swimming experience like no other! From the end of September to January, water levels on the island of Livingstone are extremely low. This allows brave souls to swim at the edge of the falls among the rocks that form a kind of pool. In short, an exciting experience with a breathtaking view!

9. Superb guiding quality (the best in Africa!) and friendly service ethic

It is worth mentioning that the level of guides on a Zambian safari is exceptionally high. Every guide in Zambia must pass rigorous guiding exams, especially walking safari guides. Thus, the quality of your guide’s general knowledge of the area will be enhanced by the quality of the guide’s general knowledge of the area.
