Eating street food is a great way to eat well on a backpacker’s budget and it also gives you the opportunity to talk to locals and find out more about the different dishes.

1. Bangkok, Thailand

3. Tokyo, Japan
The home to the more Michelin starred restaurants; Japanese cuisine is known for sushi. But there are more to that cuisine, the cheaper eats locally known as yatai. The must try is okonomiyaki: savory pancakes filled with meat, seafood, and vegetables.

4. Port Louis, Mauritius
Mauritian cuisine is a mix of French, Creole, Indian and Chinese origins. It is just a culinary experience for the taste buds. Try the delicious bol renversé: a Sino-Mauritian dish consisting largely of rice served with pork, chicken or fish, fresh vegetables, a fried egg and oyster sauce.
