Why You Should Visit Phuket?

Traveling is one of my favorite hobbies aside from reading, and nothing is more fun than reading while traveling. Traveling allows me to discover new cultures and is a way for me to visit the world. My ultimate goal is to visit all countries on the planet, and I am not quite there yet, but I have traveled to my fair share of countries. One of the places that I loved visiting and that I’ve been to thrice at this point in Phuket. Phuket is a gem and is usually overlooked for its big sister Thailand. So, without further ado, let’s learn more about Phuket and what you can do there.

When to visit Phuket?

Phuket

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is located in the Southern part of Thailand and is in the Andaman sea. The best time to visit this island is between the months of November to April. This is when the weather is ideal for this tropical paradise, and it is when the weather condition is ideal, especially to go to the beach and t do beach activities. You can also visit the island during the monsoon season, which is between May and October. Though this is not the ideal time to visit the island, it is when accommodation prices are lower, but you should know that the weather condition can be quite dangerous. The temperature during peak time hovers around the lower 80°F, and the ocean is also relatively calm during this season. You should also know that accommodation prices might skyrocket during peak season, but this is natural for any tropical destination because tourists rush to these places during the summer.

I Told Sunset About You (ITSAY)

ITSAY

This famous bl (boys love) series gained in popularity last year with a sequel that came out this year and is one of those series that is beautifully filmed. ITSAY is a beautiful shot series, and the cinematic is what attracted me the most, and it showed me Phuket in another light. I visited Phuket twice before watching ITSAY, and after the series and with the relaxation of the lockdown and pandemic, I was able to travel this year. The first place I went to was Phuket, and I planned my journey to go to the places where the series was filmed. If you want to do the same and go to the places that I Told Sunset About You, then you ought to visit Yanui beach; this is where the Skyline music video has been filmed, and Sangtham Shrine, which is the temple we see through the series and the marks where our protagonists go to pray. It was even more beautiful in person. You should also visit Dibuk Restaurant, which is where most of the story takes place and is Teh’s family restaurant, and we can even try the noodles for yourself. So, if you are a bl fan like me, then you ought to visit Phuket just to see the location where I Told Sunset About You was filmed. You can even stay in Oh-aew’s family hotel in the series and which is called Cape Panwa Hotel.

What to do there?

Beaches

Phuket

Phuket is a well-loved tourist destination and is known for its sandy beaches. Phuket is known for its natural fauna and flora and is the best place to visit during the summers. If you are a storm hunter, you better visit Phuket during the monsoon season; during the weather is a sight for sore eyes. Generally, I visit Phuket, and the accommodation is lower, but I hate the heat. It is the ideal time for you to discover the local population and visit the beaches without an influx of tourists bothering you.

Temples

Phuket

Phuket is also known for its temple and beautiful religious iconography, and it is a well-known religious destination. As we stated earlier, you can visit the iconic temple from I Told Sunset About You, Sangtham Shrine. You can visit the Big Buddha, an iconic landmark in Phuket and a 45-meter tall white marble statue of Buddha. You can visit the Big Buddha year-round, and the entrance is free, but donations are always appreciated. You should also visit Chalong Temple if you are visiting Phuket for its temple; it was built in the earlier 19th century and is the largest and most visited Buddha temple in Phuket. Remember, there are specific rules you have to follow while visiting the Thai temple, you should remove your shoes (its a sign of respect), no short shorts or above the knee shirts and remember, no sleeveless shirts or caps. Like the Big Buddha, the entrance is free, but donations are also appreciated. The temple is only open from 7 am to 5 pm, but you can walk around the property anytime you want. People generally visit the two temples on the same day because you can take a car or motorbike to visit them and they are closed by.

Food

Phuket

Like any tropical Island and famous tourist destination, Phuket also has a pretty well-known and intricate cuisine. If you are visiting Phuket, you ought to eat authentic Pad Thai, which is definitely the Americanized version that you are used to, and no, they don’t use peanut butter for their Pad Thai. You should also try Tom yum goong, the national dish of Thailand and has a unique flavor: spicy hot and sour or even Massam curry, which is a curry made of coconut milk, potatoes, and roasted peanuts, tamarind sauce, bay leaves and sugar. If you have a sweet tooth like me, you ought to try some traditional Thai candies and sweets. Mango sticky rice and coconut ice creams are a must that everyone who visits Thailand or Phuket must try. Look Choop is also a must-try, and if you are a bl fan like mean, you’ve seen this in Until we meet again and is my favorite sweet and I bring Look Choop to all my friends back home.

Sound off in the comments section below and tell us what your favorite bl series is and if you want to visit Phuket. My personal favorites are Your Name Engraved Herein, I Told Sunset About, and Bad buddy, which is currently airing.
